US investigates a near midair collision in New York
The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announced it is formally investigating a near mid-air collision involving a Boeing 737 and 767 at New York Kennedy airport.
The agency says, on 5 July at 20:36 local time, a Cayman Airways 737-300 that was executing a missed approach from runway 22L when it conflicted with a 767-300 operated by Chilean carrier LAN that was taking off from runway 13R.
The NTSB says: “Tower controllers intervened to attempt to resolve the conflict, assigning both aircraft diverging headings. The closest proximity of the two aircraft has not yet been determined.
