Hong Kong Airport installs free PS3 machines

Not a bad way to pass the time at an airport

While British gateways are busy rolling out full-body scanners that effectively see you naked, Hong Kong International Airport is installing something altogether more enjoyable.

The Asian hub has furnished both of its terminals with 14 Playstation 3 consoles – part of an effort to keep travellers entertained while milling around in the boarding gate for their flight.

All of its PS3 Game Poles are packed to the rafters with pre-loaded titles, including Final Fantasy XIII, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

The consoles are permanently connected to a sleek, widescreen TV display with anchored controllers, and can be found strategically dotted around all corners of the airport.

Cheapflights can’t imagine that they’ll be incredibly popular among business travellers, but they should be a great way of keeping the kids busy in the event of flight delays.

And for anyone travelling via HKIA, that seems to be an all-too-likely possibility.

Recent research by marketing specialists Cimigo found that departing passengers spend an average of four hours passing through the airport, including three hours within the restricted zone.
