With US series Pan Am now gracing our screens, the glamour days of flying are brought to the forefront of our minds.

Recently, Cheapflights.co.uk surveyed its newsletter subscribers asking questions about such disparate features of air travel as smoking, baggage fees, complimentary pillows and blankets and the all-important free bag of peanuts.

Is flying a better experience now or was it better in the days when flight attendants were called stewardesses and served complimentary cocktails on all flights?

Our respondents were split fairly evenly between male and female and more than 80 per cent of them were aged 40 and older. Click on the image above to reveal our findings or download the results.
