EasyJet responds to flight cancellation blunder
EasyJet has said that reports of thousands of its passengers being wrongly told their flights had been cancelled are exaggerated.
The Daily Mail claimed that easyJet sent emails to a large number of customers erroneously notifying them that their summer bookings had been axed.
But the low-cost carrier this evening told Cheapflights that “probably no more than a dozen” flights had been affected by the momentary technical glitch.
A spokesman for easyJet said that an email blunder had resulted in some passengers being inadvertently told that their flights would not be running.
Rather than affecting thousands of passengers as The Daily Mail claimed, however, he said the bug had impacted on customers booked into just a handful of flights.
Passengers were notified of the error within minutes via SMS text or email, the spokesman added.
He also blamed air traffic controllers for the disruption, saying changes to their timetable had forced the no-frills airline to alter some departure times by up to four hours.
EasyJet’s clarification email explained: “If you received an email earlier tonight that your flight was cancelled, please ignore the previous email. Your flight is NOT cancelled. We would like to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by a technical error.”
