EasyJet clarifies flight cancellation blunder
Reports that thousands of easyJet passengers were wrongly told their flights had been cancelled are totally unsubstantiated, Cheapflights has learnt.
The Daily Mail had claimed easyJet sent emails to a large number of customers erroneously notifying them that their summer bookings had been cancelled.
But the low-cost carrier this evening confirmed to Cheapflights that “probably no more than a dozen” flights had been affected by the transient technical glitch.
A spokesman for easyJet said that an email blunder had resulted in some passengers being inadvertently told that their flights would not be running.
Rather than affecting thousands of passengers as The Daily Mail claimed, however, the computer blip had in fact impacted on customers booked into just a handful of flights.
All affected passengers were notified of the error within minutes via SMS text and email.
The issue arose after air traffic controllers implemented changes to their timetable which forced the no-frills airline to alter some departure times by up to four hours.
EasyJet’s clarification email explained: “If you received an email earlier tonight that your flight was cancelled, please ignore the previous email. Your flight is NOT cancelled. We would like to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by a technical error.”
