Bergen on the brilliant … BMI’s new destination

New flights from London Heathrow to Europe and North Africa are set to take off from 1 April.

Heathrow’s second-largest airline, British Midland International, (bmi) will be offering new daily flights to Norway’s Bergen and Stavanger as of April Fools Day, becoming the only airline to serve the World Heritage City of Bergen from Heathrow.

Famous for being the gateway to the Norwegian Fjords, wholesome Bergen isn’t just for sandal and sock wearing types – its colourful UNESCO-listed Bryggen Hanseatic wharf is the perfect place for shopping and dining whilst overlooking the waterfront.

Culture vultures can come over all Sound of Music too – the city was the birthplace of composer Edvard Grieg and is home to one of the world’s oldest symphony orchestras, not to mention a host of national galleries and museums – and Swiss chocolate.

Travellers dreaming of warmer climes – and bargain shopping – can head to the souk markets of Morocco with bmi’s new flights to Marrakech - taking off three times week from 1 April. Direct flights to tourist hotspot Casablanca will run four times a week from 2 April.

Chief Executive Officer at bmi, Wolfgang Prock Schauer, said, “To meet the clear demand for further growth, we are offering new direct services to Norway and Morocco which builds on our network strategy to focus on international routes whilst still providing key domestic connectivity to London Heathrow.

“This news follows the recent announcement of new flights from Heathrow to the Libyan capital, Tripoli, and a double daily service from Heathrow to Beirut. In addition we have just launched new services from Heathrow and Manchester to Basel in Switzerland in partnership with SWISS,” he added.
